The River Take
04:46
|
|||
and if I die before I wake
pray my bones the river take xx
and gives in kind xx
like rapids in my mind
sometime beautiful sometime terrible
lovely unbearable
am I repairable xx
CHORUS
and if I die before I wake
pray my bone the river take
and mother night
take me by the hand
lead me on to the promised land
the river take xx
and if these coins upon my eyes
don't pay the toll
I'll just take the ride and
make it mine xx
CHORUS
up around the bend xx
way past where I have been
the point of no return
past my deepest sin
oh out to sea
and wash me clean xx
CHORUS

The Heart is Where
03:25

ruthie reminded me, once upon a time, that often what we ask of the world we can give to ourselves...
aka Come On Home
========
Blaming distance why we can't swing by
Thinking it's weakness so we tell our lies
strayed and wandered too damn far
but walk long enough you circle back to the start
ain't just walls ain't just beams
It's built on hopes it's built on dreams
CHORUS
When you want when you need to
come on home
but there's too much water under bridges
so you feel like you cna't be forgiven
no sorry needed see the light house shining
guiding you safe to these arms to hide in
when there's pain when there's tears
even if walls crumble it'll always be here
CHORUS
maybe never known a place
someplace anyplace you've called your own
somplace someone to give you grace
and call you home xx
don't you cry don't you fear
just letting you know baby I'm right here
CHORUS

is it time to grow up yet huck...
aka Maybe Somedays
========
I was the shirtless shoe-less captain Nemo of my own dreams
lucidly high on creativity trying not to rip a hole
in reality or my only pair of jeans
'cause there's no such thing as church clothes play clothes school clothes
hand me downs you'll grow just lucky that they're on your back clothes
in my private Vietnam jungle drive
where sticks and stones are the toys and tools
keeping dreams alive
cutting down paths and enemies
running from the snakes and the spiders and the ghosts in the trees
giving way to rust and stardust
my spaceship race-car jolly roger nautilus
CHORUS
Ashes to ashes and rust to dust but not today
trading reality for my own dreams
no take-backs no giveaways
living on imagination
and maybe somedays
Torn seat cracked dash broken spring fantasies
acted out in Detroit steel
rising up no rubber no roads
the only fuel is how I feel
Rising up that's that cinder-block pride son
sitting taller I'm a giant
catch my cinder-block vibe son
and the broken wheel may never turn
but I steer my dreams true
daytime navigating by the pin hole constellation in that rusted roof
reaching thru windowless windshields to dare the blue sky storm
Ahab just a character in a story that can't compete with my own
so I hunt my white whales my demons my prey
saving damsels slaying nightmares not just make believe and play
I surf the clouds and scream dive dive dive
kracken's running scared pray Nemo let's him out alive
CHORUS

The Tyger
03:22
|
|||
William Blake wrote some kick ass poems – and once upon -- a brindle dane made me smile and cry – memorials in covered scars - and maybe stripes can change...
========
Tyger Tyger burning bright
in the forests of the night;
what immortal hand or eye,
could frame thy fearful symmetry?
In what distant deeps or skies
burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand, dare seize the fire?
And what shoulder, and what art,
could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat,
what dread hand? & what dread feet?
What the hammer? What the chain,
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? What dread grasp,
dare it's deadly terrors clasp!
When the stars threw down their spears
and water'd heaven with their tears:
did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the lamb make thee?
Tyger tyger burning bright
in the forests of the night;
what immortal hand or eye
dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

The Prescient Present
04:02
|
|||
George Santayana said -- to know your future you must know your past. Carl Sagan said -- you have to know the past to understand the present. I say -- if you are truly present you're already in the future... and further that -- being present starts with accepting the past without rewrites... and Kansas sang -- if I claim to be a wise man it surely means that I don't know.

aka Be Present
========
why would I save money
when they only print more
why did we choose upright
when it's so much faster on all four
why are girls all sugar spice
and boys well we're not meant to cry
why if stars are still burning bright
are we all so scared to die
CHORUS
Overconfident and guessing
pretending to be brave you're stressing
drowning in the rhetoric a lesson
when you're riding tidal waves
be present
why are dreams so telling
when they're never understood
why is being mean
so much easier than being good
why do we guess the weather
when we know it always changes
why do we judge another
when we can't define what strange is
CHORUS
why put gold at rainbows end
just the optics of illusions
why would we choose death not cake
just feeding our own delusions
whay are we so serious
but say we're only joking
why we always have the answer
on the tongue but we're never choking

aka Let Me Go
========
say you got to set 'em free if they come back it's meant to be
say you got to set 'em free if they come back it's meant to be
anymore anymore I cannot breathe your shadow hovering over me
skies and futures I can't see in the darkness cast I cannot be
long time now hasn't felt like home always together yet always alone
begging begging please for you to please see me
begging begging please for you to please hear me
lost to who I am lost to who I want to be be be
CHORUS
Won't you let me go xx
say you got to set 'em free if they come back it's meant to be
but if you're holding on to ghosts ghosts are all you see see see
the life was gone long ago stop holding to my chains
what's haunting you is holding me can't you can't you can't you see
angels ghosts just held too tight letting go the only fight
all the best it always stays to cradle you like gentle waves
that carry you to shore xx
CHORUS
It's such a long long way to fall over the edge and off the cliff
fear of nothingness has got you hanging on hanging on
and we will never learn to fly whene you're holding on so tight
we've reached the edge alright and It's all just black as night
but there's no one left to blame frozen memories in vain
how can I ever fall for you if you don't let go xx
CHORUS
say you got to set 'em free if they come back it's meant to be

The Long Sleep
04:23
|

aka Rip Van Winkle
aka Don't Wake Me Up
========
made my bed nothing but lies in it
hiding from the world sinners denying it
waking on the wrong side of time
wishing coins in wells of a cobweb mind
CHORUS
don't wake me up
just a man out of time
don't wake me up
just a man out of his mind
don't wake me up
just laid down to rest my bones in it
blood to dust and heart to stone innit
gone dutch no crutch out of touch
pretending inside that it never meant much
CHORUS
no going back no time machines
no excuses in those oncoming high beams
dancing shoes turn running shoes
running shoes to sleeping shoes
willow breezes slumber and those creeping blues
CHORUS
waking to a world I never knew
won't ever know can't catch a clue
running from or held apart
begging in my darkest heart
gravel roads to passing lanes
self imposed or reindeer games
CHORUS

The Lullaby

|

aka Ten More Minutes
========
no one ever really wants to go
even when weary minds and heavy eyes can fight no more
simply wanting to stay up with big kids
hurried worry of all the things that you might miss
bargaining with beautiful begging eyes
to the waking world refusing to say your good nights
glass of water just one story more
check for mosters please don't close the door
CHORUS
ten more minutes just ten minutes more
soon enough you'll be sleeping deep
shedding the day's worries "neathe your feet
flying thru the clouds and dancing on the moon
and begging older stars not to bring the sun too soon
CHORUS
I'll clear the hair from you face and kiss your head
then wait patient here at the foot of your bed
watch you drift adventures I can't share
making memories and so I stare
watching time fly trying to hold back tears
growing up too fast the march of years
CHORUS
